What it does

Under current law, certain highway routes and bridges have been designated and marked to memorialize, commemorate, or recognize certain individuals, groups, or events. This bill directs the Department of Transportation to designate and, upon receipt of sufficient contributions from interested parties, mark a portion of the route of USH 12 in the city of Whitewater as the "Stephen Ambrose Memorial Highway" in recognition and appreciation of the significant scholastic and literary accomplishments of American historian Stephen Ambrose, who spent much of his early life in the city of Whitewater, began his academic career by attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has deep roots in south central Wisconsin.
No state funds, other than from contributions from interested parties, may be used for the erection or maintenance of any markers on USH 12 to identify the highway as the "Stephen Ambrose Memorial Highway."
