What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law requires that vehicles entering state parks and certain other
properties under the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
display a daily or an annual vehicle admission receipt, or sticker. Fees for these
stickers are established by statute, with a lower fee charged for vehicles that have
Wisconsin registration plates, and a higher fee charged for vehicles registered in
another state.
This bill requires DNR to charge the lower fee for a vehicle operated by a person
who is serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces, is a member of the Wisconsin
national guard, or is a member of a reserve unit of the U.S. armed forces, regardless
of whether the vehicle has Wisconsin registration plates. Under the bill, in order to
qualify for the lower fee, the person must submit proof of his or her qualifying status
to DNR.
