What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, the Department of Transportation (DOT) must publish

highway service maps showing the state trunk highway system. DOT determines

the price at which these highway service maps are sold. DOT must also publish, once

every two years, folded highway maps for free distribution to the public. Upon their

publication, DOT must distribute for free 50 highway service maps and 500 folded

highway maps to each officer and member of the legislature. These officers and

members of the legislature may request additional highway service maps at the

regularly established price and additional folded highway maps for free. DOT must

also distribute to the Legislative Reference Bureau 300 folded highway maps.

This bill prohibits DOT from printing these highway service maps and folded

highway maps during the 2009-11 fiscal biennium, but does not prohibit DOT from

distributing any inventory of highway service maps and folded highway maps

printed before the 2009-11 fiscal biennium.
