What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Unless expressly authorized by another statute, a provision of current law

generally prohibits a member of a town, village, or county board or city council

(officer), during the term for which the officer is elected, from being eligible for any

office or position which during that term has been created by, or the selection to which

is vested in, the board or council. This bill expressly authorizes an officer to be

appointed as a member of the board of directors of a regional transit authority, except

that the total number of these appointees, when calculated as a percentage of the

total of members of the board of directors, shall be less than 50 percent.
