What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law gives the governor authority to set aside, by proclamation, certain
days of the year to remember or honor specific groups or concerns. For example, the
governor issues a proclamation for Labor Day, Mother's Day, Wonderful Wisconsin
Week, Veteran Recognition Week, POW-MIA Recognition Day, and Purple Heart
Day.
This bill designates July 27, the date of the military armistice agreement that
ended the Korean War, as "Korean War Armistice Day," and requires the governor
to issue a proclamation for the observation of that day, asking the public to
contemplate the sacrifices that members of the U.S. armed forces made during the
Korean War.
