What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS)
and examining boards and affiliated credentialing boards under DSPS administer
Wisconsin's professional credentialing laws. Different credentials have different
education, training, or other experience requirements that must be met before a
person may receive the credential.
Under this bill, a credential applicant's education, training, or other experience
obtained in connection with the applicant's service in the U.S. armed forces, the state
defense force, the national guard of any state, or any other reserve component of the
U.S. armed forces satisfies that credential's education, training, or other experience
requirements, unless DSPS or the board that issues the credential determines that
the applicant's military education, training, or other experience is not substantially
equivalent to the requirements for the credential.
