Under current law, Wisconsin observes fire prevention week during the week that contains October 8, the anniversary of the start of the Peshtigo and Chicago fires. The National Fire Protection Association observes fire prevention week during the week that contains October 9, the date when most of the damage in Peshtigo and Chicago occurred. In some years, these dates occur in different weeks.

This bill changes the reference date for fire prevention week from October 8 to October 9.
