What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law directs the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to adopt college

and career readiness standards by July 1, 2014. DPI may not adopt the standards,

however, until it conducts at least three public hearings.

This bill requires DPI to conduct at least six public hearings regarding the

adoption of college and career readiness standards. The last three hearings must be

held on three different days and must each be at least three hours long, with no more

than one hearing in any seven-day period and at least one hearing that continues

until 8:00 p.m.
