What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Transportation (DOT) must designate
and mark the bridge on STH 141 in the Town of Lena in Oconto County as the
"Nichole M. Frye Memorial Bridge" in honor and recognition of Nichole M. Frye, who
sacrificed her life in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Under this bill, if DOT receives from a nonprofit organization two signs meeting
certain criteria that display the words "SPC Nichole M. Frye Memorial Bridge," DOT
must attach these signs to the Nichole M. Frye Memorial Bridge in a specified
manner. DOT may not charge a sign installation fee in excess of its actual cost of
installation of these signs. The requirement that DOT install these signs applies
regardless of whether DOT previously installed markers for the bridge.
