What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

The constitution provides that county treasurers shall be elected in each county.

This amendment, proposed to the 2013 legislature on first consideration, provides

that Milwaukee county shall have the option of either electing the county treasurer

or having that position be appointed by the county executive, with the concurrence

of the county board, unless another method of appointment is provided by law.

A proposed constitutional amendment requires adoption by two successive

legislatures, and ratification by the people, before it can become effective.
