AB 606

This bill requires an individual who holds a private detective license issued by

the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS), at the time that he or

she applies for a renewal of his or her license, to submit evidence satisfactory to DSPS

that he or she has completed at least 7.5 hours of continuing education in each of the

one-year periods within the last licensure period in courses that satisfy standards

established by DSPS by rule, except that the requirement does not apply with respect

to an initial renewal of a private detective license. The bill requires DSPS to

promulgate rules establishing standards for continuing education courses required

under the bill, which must require that courses contribute to the applicant's

professional competence as a private detective. DSPS may identify sponsors of

continuing education programs that have the presumption of satisfying those

standards, and may conduct audits of licensees for assessing compliance with the

continuing education requirements under the bill.
