What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill modifies limitations on hauling by a special interest vehicle.
Current law provides for a special category of vehicle registration for special
interest vehicles, commonly known as "collector vehicles." A vehicle may be eligible
for registration as a collector vehicle if the vehicle is at least 20 years old, has not been
altered, and is being preserved for its historic interest, or if the vehicle is, with an
exception, at least 25 years old and is a certain type of former military vehicle.
Trucks, other than former military vehicles, that are registered as collector vehicles
may not haul material weighing more than 500 pounds, not including passengers,
pets, or a camper, lid, or cap mounted on the truck.
Under this bill, the weight limit does not apply to a trailer or load drawn by the
truck. This bill also expands the prohibition on collector vehicles transporting
passengers for hire to include transporting property for hire.
