What this bill does

This bill provides that any person who arbitrarily and capriciously disposes of

or destroys a public record prior to the date the record may be disposed of or destroyed

as provided under the public records retention law may be required to forfeit not

more than $1,000. The public records retention law prohibits public records of a state

agency from being disposed of without the written approval of the Public Records

Board and also allows the board to establish retention periods for records of counties,

cities, towns, villages, and certain other local governments.
