What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, unless a specific exception applies, pupil records
maintained in a public school are confidential. The definition of a record includes
material on which written, drawn, printed, spoken, visual, or electromagnetic
information is recorded or preserved. This bill creates a specific exception to the
requirement that pupil records be kept confidential for safety camera footage that
is made available to a law enforcement agency if sharing that footage serves a
legitimate safety interest.
