This bill eliminates the requirement that the Department of Public Instruction award grants for alternative education programs and eliminates DPI's rules related to the administration of these grants. Under current law, DPI must award grants to school districts for alternative education programs. An alternative education program is an instructional program, approved by a school board, that includes alternative or adaptive school structures and teaching techniques and that is incorporated into regularly scheduled curricular programs or offered in place of regularly scheduled curriculum programs.
