What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

This bill exempts from motor vehicle emissions limitations motor vehicles of a

model year not less than 10 years old.

Under federal law, Wisconsin is required to conduct a motor vehicle inspection

and maintenance program in specified counties. Under current Wisconsin law and

Department of Natural Resources rules, emissions limitations are specified for all

motor vehicles not exempted under law. Current law exempts from emissions

limitations any motor vehicle of a model year of 1995 or earlier. This bill changes this

exemption to apply to any vehicle with a model year of not less than 10 years old.
