What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill modifies a rule of the Department of Safety and Professional Services
to create an exception to the continuing education requirement for a youth
apprentice who is enrolled as a registered electrician.
Under current law, no person may install, repair, or maintain electrical wiring
unless the person is licensed as an electrician or enrolled as a registered electrician
by DSPS. Under current rules of DSPS, a person who is enrolled as a registered
electrician may renew his or her enrollment if the person obtains at least 24 hours
of continuing education prior to the expiration of the one-year term of the
enrollment.
Under the bill, a person who is enrolled in a youth apprenticeship program
approved by the Department of Workforce Development may renew his or her
enrollment as a registered electrician without completing the continuing education
that applies to other registered electricians.
