What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Natural Resources regulates the
hunting, fishing, and trapping of wild animals and is required to promulgate rules
to carry out that function. Under rules promulgated by DNR, a person hunting for
bear, training a bear dog, or hunting deer in specified counties may not place, use,
or hunt over bait or feed that contains or is contained within metal, paper, plastic,
glass, wood, or other similar processed materials. This prohibition does not apply to
bait or feed placed in hollow logs or stumps or to scent materials.
This bill modifies the DNR rule to authorize affixing a processed wood bottom
to a hollow log or stump using adhesive, nails, or screws for the purpose of containing
bait or feed.
