What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

This bill requires the Department of Public Instruction to include in the annual

school district and school accountability report, commonly referred to as school and

school district report cards, the percentage of pupils who are habitually truant.

Current law defines “habitual truant” as a pupil who is absent from school without

an acceptable excuse for part or all of five or more days during a school semester. The

bill specifies that this information may not be used to evaluate a school's performance

or school district's improvement.
