What this bill does

This bill provides that rules promulgated by the Department of Natural

Resources that ban baiting deer in counties on the basis of confirmed positive tests

for chronic wasting disease (CWD) or bovine tuberculosis (bovine TB) must be based

on CWD or bovine TB confirmed in free-roaming animals.

Under current law, DNR must promulgate rules that prohibit baiting deer in

any county that has a confirmed positive test for CWD or bovine TB in any captive

or free-roaming animal. The rule may not prohibit feeding deer for longer than three

years after the positive test.

Under current law, DNR must promulgate rules that prohibit baiting deer in

any county that is within 10 miles of the location of a confirmed positive test for CWD

or bovine TB in any captive or free-roaming animal. The rule may not prohibit

feeding deer for longer than two years after the positive test.
