What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a vacancy in public office occurs if the incumbent ceases to be a resident of this state or if the incumbent ceases to be a resident of the district or other area from which the official is elected or within which the duties of the office are to be discharged, as specified by law.
Under this bill, no such vacancy occurs if the incumbent fails to maintain his or her permanent address for up to 60 days due to homelessness.
