What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, one of the forms of photographic identification that may be used for voting purposes is a student identification card issued by a university, college, or technical college in Wisconsin that contains an expiration date indicating that the card expires no later than two years after the date of issuance if the individual establishes that he or she is enrolled as a student at the university or college on the date that the card is presented for voting. This bill provides that the student identification card’s expiration date may be up to six years after the date of issuance, rather than two.
