This bill is introduced as required by s. 227.26 (2) (j), stats., in support of the action of the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules in suspending emergency rule 2408 of the Wisconsin Elections Commission on July 22, 2024. The suspended emergency rule 1) described requirements and procedures for filing a declaration of candidacy for a local, state, or federal office (declaration of candidacy), 2) identified grounds for bringing challenges to a declaration of candidacy, and 3) described the procedures by which the commission or filing officer would hear and decide these complaints for such challenges and the ability of an individual to seek review of the commission’s or filing officer’s decision on the complaint.
