What this bill does

Under current law, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection must conduct a program to increase awareness and consumption of locally produced foods and related products and to increase the production and improve the distribution of foods and related products for local consumption. Also under current law, DATCP may award grants to individuals or organizations to fund projects that are designed to increase the sale of agricultural products in this state that are purchased in proximity to where they are produced. This bill increases funding by $300,000 in each year of the 2025-27 fiscal biennium for DATCP to provide Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin grants.

Under current law, DATCP must allow all products and commodities produced or manufactured in this state that meet the standards established by DATCP to be included in DATCP’s promotional campaign that uses the phrase “Something Special from Wisconsin.” The bill increases DATCP’s annual appropriation for the advertising and promotion of the Something Special from Wisconsin slogan, mark, and logo by $200,000 in each year of the 2025-27 fiscal biennium.
