What this bill does
Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law requires municipalities to establish polling places for each election at least 30 days before the election. Under current law, after an election and more than 30 days before the next election, the location of a polling place in a municipality may not be discontinued without the approval of the municipality’s governing body after a public hearing at which the public has an opportunity to present testimony on the proposed discontinuation.
Under this bill, if the location of a polling place is discontinued after an election, notice of that change must be mailed to each residence the polling place serves no later than 30 days before the next election.
