What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, municipalities issue licenses for the retail sale of fermented

malt beverages (beer) and intoxicating liquor. In limited circumstances, the

Department of Revenue (DOR) also issues permits for the retail sale of beer and

intoxicating liquor. Current law, as created in

2009 Wisconsin Act 28

, requires DOR,

upon application, to issue retail beer and intoxicating liquor permits to American

Indian tribes meeting certain criteria.

This bill repeals the requirement that DOR issue retail beer and intoxicating

liquor permits to American Indian tribes and specifies that any previously issued

permit is void as of the effective date of the bill.
