What this bill does

Plain-language analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law specifies that an alcohol beverage retail license may be issued for a painting studio and provides exceptions to some requirements that generally apply to licensed establishments. Under current law, painting studios with alcohol beverage licenses are excepted from certain restrictions on operating hours and the presence of unaccompanied minors. “Painting studio” is defined under current law as “an establishment that is primarily engaged in the business of providing to customers instruction in the art of painting and that offers customers the opportunity to purchase food and beverages for consumption while they paint.”

This bill changes the term “painting studio” to “art studio” and expands the definition to cover candlemaking.
